We mark the layout before we cut, avoid joists and ductwork, and use IC-rated housings where the ceiling is insulated. IC means “insulation contact,” so insulation can safely sit against the fixture. LED retrofit cans are also a good way to update old, hot halogen lights.

A new fixture is only as secure as the box behind it. We check that the box can carry the weight, brace it when it cannot and leave the fixture level and tight.
