Swapping a fan or a light fixture for a new fan is the most common job. We turn off the circuit, pull the old unit and inspect the box and the wiring. If the box is fan-rated, we reuse it. If not, we replace it with one that is.

A New Fan in a Room With No Ceiling Fixture
Many older rooms, including some bedrooms and finished basements, have only wall outlets. The fix is new wiring and a wall switch, and we do that work without tearing the room apart.
